Today we are happy to have a guest blogger, Lesley Scott, Editor-in-Chief of Fashion Tribes and the Travel Snob. Remember her? A few weeks ago she wrote for Moms' Buzz the "Five Fashion Must-Haves for Spring 2007!" Lesley wrote today's post with moms in mind because in addition to juggling our chores we also have to deal with unfriendly people out there, and it is hard not to lose our cool. So, this post will give you the tools to deal with those people so that you can shake off that bad energy and keep up with your day graciously.
Deal with People & Maintain Your Peace of Mind
Dealing with people can leave you feeling less than calm and unruffled. But this
needn't be the case. According to in "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" (Integral
Yoga Publications) by Sri Swami Satchidananda, people fall into one of four
categories, and if you apply the correct response, you'll enjoy serenity of mind
- always:
HAPPY PEOPLE: respond with friendliness. If someone seems to be enjoying more
economic success or fame than you, but they're friendly, instead of being
jealous, expand by responding in a way that's friendly. Jealously will only
disturb your serenity.
UNHAPPY PEOPLE: apply compassion. Instead of giving into the temptation to
figure they must have done something to deserve their situation, pour on the
milk of human kindness.
VIRTUOUS PEOPLE: respond with delight. Should you come across the Dalai Lama or
the like, fight the temptation to be envious or pull that person down; instead,
ask yourself what they're doing right (that you're not).
WICKED PEOPLE: a huge dose of indifference. Remind yourself that some people are
just that way, and you probably were the same at some point; now, you've
improved, and no doubt, they will too. And then give them no more thought. Most
of all, resist the temptation to offer advice: they will inevitably respond with
rage rather than gratitude, riling up your state of mind.
