Since keeping you "posted" is our goal and desire, next time you go to the post office don't forget to get those stamps worth a couple of cents to complement your old $0.39 stamps; otherwise, your letter will cost you twice as much. Yes, the United States Postal Service is changing postage rates again effective May 14, 2007. But don't worry. Moms' Buzz gives you the scoop that matters. The most significant changes effective May 14, 2007 are:
- A rate increase in almost every class of mail.
- The new rates will be based on the size, shape and thickness of the mail, in addition to the weight.
- Any First Class mail piece bearing the following characteristics will now be considered a First Class Flat.
- The piece weighs over 3.5 ounces
- Is larger than 6 1/8" x 11 1/2"
- Is more than 1/4" thick
- Additional ounce reduction in First Class Mail from 24¢ to 17¢.
- Permanent flat-rate pricing for Priority Mail envelopes and boxes.
