Tips for a Healthier Halloween
For the majority of us, Halloween treats mostly mean giving out candy, but it does not have to be that way. You can actually give healthier alternatives, and kids will still love your treats! According to an article by Maureen P. Ryan published in www.Scholastic.com, a recent study showed that kids welcome such alternatives. Researchers offered trick-or-treaters in five Connecticut neighborhoods two bowls to choose from: one with lollipops or fruit candy and one with inexpensive Halloween-themed trinkets. About half the kids skipped the sweet stuff and took a toy instead. So you may want to consider making the switch at your house too, why not?
Here are some healthier alternatives you may want to consider for this Halloween:
Food:
- sugar-free lollipops
- fruit
- raisins
- granola bars
- popcorn
- trail mix
- cheese sticks
Trinkets:
- plastic vampire teeth
- glow-in-the dark stickers
- temporary tattoos
- spider rings
- Halloween pencils
- crayons and stickers
- mini yoyos
