Before Getting Your "Toy" Shopping Done this Holiday Season, Check www.toyinfo.org First!
With the recent toy recalls in the past months and with the holidays just a few weeks away, should you avoid toys made in China? As parents, we are concerned about buying toys that might get recalled eventually. How do we know what to buy?
Worry not. Before getting your "toy" shopping done this holiday season, you may want to check out this new toy safety site launched by the Toy Industry Association (TIA) www.toyinfo.org to help parents with toy safety and buying tips.
This site will inform you well, and whenever you bumped into a toy that is in your list, you know whether it is a "no-no" or a "yes-yes."
ToyInfo.org is aimed to both reassure and educate consumers on the industry’s rigorous safety standards and testing processes, plus the site contains answers to tough questions on what the industry is doing to ensure safety and how parents can help.
Additional content at www.toyinfo.org includes:
- The state of toy safety
- Independent expert perspectives on toy safety from the medical and child safety communities
- News updates
- Behind-the-scenes toy testing and design videos
- Recall notifications
- Toy buying tips from Safe Kids Worldwide
For your convenience, we have included a brief Q&A with Joan Lawrence, Vice President of Toy Safety, a mom of three. Joan has been with TIA for 15 years and oversees its Toy Safety Assurance Program; to read more, click here.
In addition, you can call them directly if you have questions. They have established a direct line for questions to be answered. Call TIA's toll free call center at 888-88-4TOYS (operating hours are 9 AM to 9 PM ET).
Toys, fun and safety go hand-in-hand this holiday season and always!

I recently found another good site to check for toy recalls www.RecalledToyAlert.com - I liked this one better because I could easily browse all the recalled toy images - time saver for a time-starved mom like me.
On the site you'll also notice a link to a Facebook app so if you use facebook it's very convenient.
The more sites like www.RecalledToyAlert.com and ToyInfo.com the better!
