Although Cinco de Mayo is not an American Holiday people have come to think of it as a part of the American tradition. Margaritas and Nachos make a Cinco de Mayo celebration complete.
In order to honor this tradition, The Moms Buzz would like to offer you a short history of Cinco de Mayo and a very tasty Margarita recipe to go with it.
Salud and Viva Cinco de Mayo!
The short story is this: During the morning of May 5, 1862, 4000 Mexican soldiers defeated the French Army at Puebla (located 100 miles from Mexico City).
Why were the French in Mexico?. They had arrived a few months earlier with the excuse to collect a debt from the new Democratically elected President Benito Juarez. Juarez had suspended all foreign debt payments for two years. He promised to resume payment after the two years passed. The French refused to accept this and decided to invade.
