Moms Buzz thinks we all fall into this trap: to buy the most fashionable sunglasses instead of the best ones for our lifestyle. With all those fancy and exquisite looking oversized sunglasses it is so easy to fall for them. But, busy moms, although wanting to stay chic, need not to forget, above all, the main reason why you are getting a new pair of glasses, leaving fashion aside. You got it, to protect your eyes from the sun's UV rays, and this should be coupled with the lifestyle you lead- at least your main pair of shades, right?
With that in mind, below are the main things to keep in mind when shopping for sunglasses:
- UV Protection - At the very least, you should look for sunglasses that block at least 99% of both UV-A and UV-B radiation, and screen out 75-90% of visible light.
- Tinted Lenses - Your choice of color may depend on a combination of style and purpose. For general use, the colors green, grey, yellow, or brown are recommended in order to minimize color distortion.
- Polarized Lenses - Most quality sunglasses have polarized lenses.
- Photocromatic Lenses - Photochromatic lenses are an ideal choice for those not wanting to carry a separate pair of sunglasses along with their regular eyeglasses.
- Polycarbonate Lenses - Impact-resistant lenses for who need to wear sunglasses while enjoying sports or other hazardous activities.
It is important to be aware that there is no federal sunglass requirements regarding the amount of UV light blocked by sunglass lenses. However, the American Optometric Association recommends that sunglasses block at least 99% of UV radiation.
