You may not know it but standby power is a big watt-waster! So unplug electronics that are sitting idle. And, just like this example, there are many others. In this short post, I will spread the word of 4 easy ways to save power:
- Unplug. Products plugged in still consume energy even if there are not actively in use. A good alternative is to use a power strip that turns everything on and off.
- Choose products with energy star seal. These products are supposed to use less energy even in standby mode.
- Don't use energy sucking features. For example, extra cordless phone bases.
- Get an energy audit. There are services/programs that track your energy usage levels and give you advice on how to cut down. Examples of these programs are Microsoft's Hohm service and Google is testing a similar program that is still not avaible everywhere called PowerMeter.
These are 4 easy ways to save power, and fifth way is to put them in action. So, start now!
